Participants in day classes are taken there after a visit to the fascinating main market, where they are introduced to the unusual and intriguing ingredients that are the basis of Lao cuisine. From there it is off to Tamarind Gardens to cook Lao dishes in the authentic Lao style. Evening classes are shorter, and head directly at the cooking school. Individual work stations allow you to follow the instructions of an entertaining and informative Lao teacher, whilst a bevy of staff clean up after you. The sessions end with a sumptuous meal, where you eat the fruits of your labours! Transport to and from Tamarind Restaurant and recipe book all included. Vegetarians welcome. « less

tour commences with a fascinating trip to the local markets where your instructor guides you through the vast displays of food. Vegatarians may want to skip the meat section :-) The cooking school is out in the countryside in a lovely location. The class is well paced and you get to do all the preparation and cook all the dishes... More

We really enjoyed this cooking course! We learnt some great recipes, small intimate group in a beautiful location outside of town. The visit to the local produce market was also a good experience. We really liked the cookbook that we received too!

Very good cocking course in a outdoor kitchen, a few km from the city centre. Morning class starts at the Tamarind restaurant for a quick introduction and heads on to a big local market for a small tour. Afterwards you'll be brought to the beautiful and quite location. The teacher speaks very good English, and is very knowledgeable. Must be,... More

We did the cooking class (including the market tour) with Tamarind and then ate at the restaurant a few days later. The cooking class was a fantastic experience in a lush setting with lovely facilities. Our teacher Chai was amazing – very knowledgeable, had excellent English and a great sense of humour (big thumbs up!). The market was interesting, although... More

Cooking course is run in a beautiful location surrounded by lily ponds and vegetable gardens. Bit of extra excitement when our tuktuk broke down on the way there - but another one arrived in minutes so all good. The course itself isn't that hands on - more a fun activity that a full-on cooking class. But it was very enjoyable,... More

We left the Tamarind restaurant by tuk tuk to arrive few minutes later in a remote area where there was a little creek and a pond, literally in the jungle where sat a beautiful traditional open air Lao kitchen ready to welcome a 12pax group. Everyone had there own working station, own charcoal fire BBQ to cook with and the... More

Attended the 4-830 evening class as the morning session was full We went to the wrong meet up location and almost missed the tuktuk pick up. The location is on the out skirt of town, nestled between lush garden and lotus ponds. Our instructor, named Chair, was knowledgeable and humorous. He peppered the step by step instructions with funny comments... More

The chef teaching this staff was fantastic - "Jai"? He had a great sense of humor and is obviously a professionally trained and experienced chef. I'd recommend the night class over the day however. The lunch was so huge it knocked us out and we had to go back and sleep as we don't usually even eat lunch. Also, we... More

The location is delightful among the fish ponds outside the city, the teaching was informative and fun, even for a non-chef like me. The techniques were half the fun using equipment and ingredients out of the norm for a Canadian
