With an afternoon to kill before flying home, I took a colleague's recommendation and went to check out the naval academy. It was worth it, a beautiful setting great architecture and plenty to look at, the perfect antidote to dreary Baltimore.

I would have never guessed how impressive the Naval Academy in Annapolis would be. Plus the town is filled with fun places to eat and see. Most impressive is the 4000 person dorm, a city within a city. The French architecture is impeccable and perfect. Check out the stadium and the gymnasiums. And the chapel is just beautiful!

Plan on at least 2 hours if you really want to enjoy everything to see. We spend over 3 hours. Visit the museum, the chapel. Just walk the grounds. There is history everywhere you look. Visit the information center, they will help you with your plans. There is also tour you can take. Something for everyone.

My husband and I (plus our 16-month old) visited the Academy with our brother who is in active service in the Navy. The good: we were able to drive in to the Academy and park inside, because my brother's car has the DoD Decal. Score.
