This is a very holy site for the orthodox, in fact I believe it is one of the most holy sites for them. The whole complex lives up to the expectations and is relatively cheap for what we get so see. I loved walking freely within the complex. There are many graves of famous people and quite a number of... More

I truly believe that even if you are not a religious person, this place will still take your breath away! It's magnificent. Beautiful churches and cathedrals, amazing atmosphere. Sometimes it's really hard to get into caves, because there are so many people, but you should definitely try.

Awesome historical site but be aware that if you want to go into the calves to see the catacombs, women have to wear a headscarf and not shorts. I had Capri length shorts and was turned away. Drat. Guys should probably wear long pants too to be on the safe side.

This place is just sooo adorable. It is definetely a must-see in Kiev. I was so amazed by the beauty of the churches and the view. If you want to see the caves with the relics of the christian saints you have to come early or wait a bit (if it's weekend or a holiday you have to wait A... More

Excellent place to visit in Kyiv. It is usually very peaceful in the morning and has a few good views on the Dnipro. The church above the main gates is a place not to miss. Due to all the looters rashing past the gates, this church preserved centuries of different styles. There may be a small fee at the entrance... More

I just walked around, did not go inside anywhere. The grounds are beautiful, as are the views from the hillside over the river. It's a working monastery, so also interesting to see the monks walking around in their traditional attire. No short pants or sleeveless shirts/blouses and women must cover their heads.

Very interesting to see, but be prepared for long dark tunnels light only by candlelight. Directions were unclear. This is definitely more a religious pilgrimage than a tourist site and people should behave accordingly. The Rodina Mat is just a short walk along from the top entrance and can easily be combined. A taxi back to the maiden should only... More

The Lavra complex is absolutely vast. If you enter via the main entrance, there is a large map showing you the 40 or so different buildings within the grounds. Memorise it as best you can....as this was the only map we saw during our visit!! Sme of the buildings you aren't able to enter, others are fully open to the... More

A warm and sunny day in Kyiv, spend in the lavra, it is beautiful with its golden domes, White stones and clean area, this isn't as rest of Kyiv at all. Use some time there, visit the exhibitions and the catacombs, spend time to talk to the locals, some actually speak English :)

This is a very interesting site, which provides a significant portion of church and cultural history for the broader region. Very much worth a visit.
