A day in La Alegria won't ever be forgotten, the family who owns and runs this gorgeous hacienda makes you feel like old time friends in a few hours. You won't regret spending a day or a week here. Picture a gorgeous property (we did not stay overnight but we will come back one day to sleep) in a gorgeous... More

I liked the homely feel of the accommodation and the owners. If you are worried about animals this would be a good place to stay to ease your fears. I was scared of horses yet I rode horseback every day. The horses were so calm and intelligent. I enjoyed the flexibility of mealtimes to suit the guests. The gardens are... More

I rode recently at La Alegria whilst on a Volunteering trip to Quito, and thoroughly enjoyed both the riding and my stay at Gabriel and Paty's lovely Hacienda. I returned to go on the 2 day ride to the Cloud Forest, which comes back through the high Paramo, and had the added pleasure of being shown round Oswaldo's orchid garden... More

We spent a wonderful day with Maurizio at Alegria Farm. He took my husband and I on a 3 hour horse ride up into the mountains followed by a delicious meal and tour of the farm. We got to see the horses, llamas, and cows at milking time. The farm is beautiful and the views along the trail were spectacular.... More

This review is long overdue, as I travelled to Ecuador end of 2012 and had the fortune to spend three days at this beautiful farm, so rich in history, with newly furnished comfortable rooms that overlook the serene misty hills and countryside. The main reason for my visit was to attempt some horseriding, which I'd heard was one of the... More

Just about an hour's drive south from Quito you will find the most delightful family owned and operated hacienda/farm that caters to visitors in the most friendly and attentive fashion you can imagine. Alegria is a real working dairy farm where you can view the entire milking operation. We went there specifically to do some horseback riding in the countryside.... More

The views we saw during our horseback ride were absolutely stunning, and the experience was followed up with a delicious, local meal at the Hacienda. Our ride lasted a bit longer than we would have liked (~4 1/2 hours), so (if you are novice horseback riders like us) you might ask for the abbreviated tour. Also, if you are driving... More

We only had the opportunity to stay 2 days at Alegria Farm and it was the best 2 days in Ecuador. I rode twice during my stay, one short ride thru the picturesque countryside and a longer ride to El Corazon. My Peruvian Paso horse was bright and energetic, yet perfectly trained. I fell in love with custom leatherwork bridles... More

I have to agree with all the other reviewers. This is a great place to stay. We were there with a tour group and spent the night. I don't know what a day visit would be like. We had an enjoyable horseback ride for a few hours with Gabriel leading. I am not a horse lover, but it was OK,... More

A beautiful hacienda perfectly located within easy traveling distance from Quito. If you are a horse lover, a rider or an architect lover, this home is a must see. Gabriel and Paty offer a warm and inviting look into Ecuadorian culture, history and provide each guest with a unique farm experience. Gabriel and his staff of Chagra's (cowboys) provide guests...
