After seeing the long lines in the hot sun to get in I almost turned away. Once inside I was rewarded with one of the best collections of chinese art, both ancient and contemporary. I can't recommend this museum highly enough, simply one of the best attractions in all of Beijing. The security was almost an attraction by itself, but... More

Everything was written in Chinese which created a 'great wall' for understanding the history etc. Therefore I think it is a bit unfair to judge from my western mindset and perspective. Afterall I am in China. I was inspired by the artwork, looking at pictures. Just different techniques, and subjects.

Fantastic industrial woodblock or maybe lino prints, not sure as couldn't find any information about them or the artist as all info is in Chinese (which is obviously not essential and my own fault for not reading Chinese). The book shop had nothing on the artist and the website gave me no info either. Some interesting work but exhibited badly.... More

Although there is no charge for this museum they may require a quick glance at your passport for no apparant reason. The museum has 5 floors with ever changing exhibits that are well lit and well presented. This time the pictures were not as inspiring as last time but next time...who knows?

We saw the intriguing exhibition of centennial art works of teachers and students of Nanjing University of the Arts and I would have like to see the landscape one too but our schedule did not allow it. Some landscape was included in the Nanjing exhibition anyway. Seeing Chinese art in real life was enriching.

Like the previous poster, I was disappointed with what they had on display. I went there with high hopes, thinking that I could see the paintings of some of the famous Chinese masters. I searched online before arriving in China, and the website did say the works of the traditional chinese painters whose art I admired were in their collection.... More

I had read that this museum does not tend to exhibit the usual Chinese dynastic art forms, but tends to exhibit more contemporary works, so I headed there to find the exhibit was the Fifth China Beijing International Art Biennale--a show of all contemporary art. Contemporary art of China was the main attraction, but there was also galleries of contemporary... More

The 'National Art Museum of China' sounds like a place that would offer a massive and definitive collection of Chinese art. Not so. While maybe it might indeed have a huge collection of stuff in storage, it has a disappointingly small collection on public display. It is a nice building, and the work it had on display was interesting, but... More

An exhibit of the works of a number of traditional Chinese artists opened on 26 April 2012. The pieces are outstanding and well worth the time. Admission is free. Spent a few hours there today and will probably return in a few days for more. The exhibition will run through 06 May. Go and enjoy!

In central Beijing a few meters from the top of Wangfujing Street, about 2 kilometres west of the exit of Forbidden City. Opens at 9 am, but it's closed Mondays. Displays are constantly changing. Has a small gift shop on 1st floor to the right as you enter. There is also a children's art facility on site, but few people... More
