I am so glad that we took the day trip out of Beirut to see Baalbeck. The ruins are incredible, especially the temple of Jupiter, the largest of its kind in the world and the temple of Bacchus with its intricate carvings. We paid for a guide to show us around and I would highly recommend this. Our guide was... More

5 stars are not enough. No amount of stars are enough to describe the awesome size and splendor of these ancient temples. The largest Jupiter temple in the world, and the best preserved gigantic (though smaller than the Jupiter) temple to Dionysus--it even has poppy heads carved into its pillars. Incredible. A day's journey from and to Beirut but you... More

Whenever en wherever you are in Lebanon, this is the place that you must see! Amazing temples and ruins. If you go you have to ask a guide to show you around, you will be more amazed.

Great for anybody interested in archeology... Leave yourself plenty of time to explore. Beautiful. Well-maintained.

Best roman site I have ever seen. Can get hot by midday so go early in hot months. Allow plenty of time as the site is large.

We visited the ruins many years ago in 1990, and just returned. They have made improvements to the area which is a good thing to see. Open pits and overly-dangerous edges are now roped off or sealed; however, if you have rambunctious children, then this is not the place to bring them in my opinion. The historical value in undeniable,... More

Its a nice place to see, its just so big! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable but clearly in a rush to get around. They were rebuilding the path outside which was interesting to cross (wet cement here and there). Watch out for souvenir chewing gum sellers, they become annoying if they follow you, just tell them to go away.... More

Myself and a friend travelled to Lebanon, ignoring all the warning and I am so pleased we did. Baalbek is fantastic and well worth the visit. It is an easy day trip from Beirut. We used a local company that I found on Trip Advisor Lebanon Tours and Travel - Hussein Abdallah. I would recommend this mode of transport as... More

Absolute must if you are in Lebanon! The sheer scale of the architecture is mind-boggling! Imagining how the Romans partied with Bacchus was pretty fun too!
