First of all, it was more that I expected!!!! We enter the boat at Thassouang and went down the Mekong to Luang Prabang! The tour guide welcomed us in very good english and explained us what the boat tour is all about. We had enough space to sit or to lay down. Everything was clean and comfortable and nice done... We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day trip down the Mekong river to Luang Prabang. From the initial communication to the pick up in Chiang Khong, everything was flawless. There were only 8 of us on the cruise which was nice and relaxing. The food on the boat was good and plentiful. The stops were also interesting and the guide Phet... More

Taking a boat ride on the Mekong River starting in Luang Prabang and bringing you to the Thai border near Chiang Thon is an adventure of tranquilitz not to be missed. The boat starts early in the morning and has a first stop at the Pak Ou caves. Depending on the water level one can easily access the caves and... More

The food and spacious relaxation on the boat was ideal but the hotel in Pakbeng had dirty water and poor internet connection. We stopped in a village that sold scarves made from China rather than handmade right in the village. It kind of felt like the worst-case of poverty tourism. Other than that the slow-boating itself was a classic Laotian... More

We had a great trip from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang with Shompoo. I easily communicated with Alex at Shompoo Cruise over email. I had first contacted him in early December and he said he was unable to confirm our desired departure date as they needed at least 6 people for the cruise to run. By mid-January he had the... More

Three of us took the 2 day Shompoo cruise from Luang Prabang to Houay Xai in February. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Thailand and Laos. The boat was comfortable with cushioned benches and booths, and not at all crowded. Everyone had plenty of room to stretch out, relax and watch the gorgeous scenery go by.... More

Tjhe Nagi of Mekong river trip from Luang Prabang to Houx Sai, via Pakbeng overnight was simply the nicest way of travelling! We were picked up early in the morning from our guesthouse in LP and taken to the boat. We found that the two of us were the only passengers doing the up river trip, as this direction is... More

We were on the same trip as Hurleyfraser, and agree with her, both about the trip and the company. We paid a bit more .... gathered that prices are a little negotiable if one really pushes, and I gather from other posts tht there can be add-on's that we didn't get. However, it was all a great experience. The only... More

We were on a shompoo cruise on the 16th Feb 2013. From HX to LP, I know everyone has already explained the excellent service so I won't repeat what they've said. But it really was worth the extra money. We are backpacking for a year so are on a tight budget but paid £75 ($115) just because the slow boats... More
