A good walk around with many interesting things to look at - if you like museums. There is a lot of security and they tend to make you feel uncomfortable.
My favourite part of the museum is the Islamic art collection which is just amazing. It's a large gallery absolutely full of beautiful artifacts. There are also the 'usual' museum exhibits about local customs, the natural history section, and a gallery about oil exploration. It's not all that big compared to other national museums but we still spent about 2...

The Brunei Museum has seven separate rooms each with a specific theme. Of most interest to me was the Islamic Art room, the oil discovery room and wildlife room. Exhibits are easy to follow and all signage is available in English and Bahasa. Well worth a look. Life nearly everywhere in Brunei, there is no enterance fee
You must take a bus... it is some km distant from the city. Has 5 or 6 different galleries, ... ancient history, etc. Return was succesful... by auto-stop!!
A perfect way to learn more about this country. The fact that girls only started going to school recently, that 100 years ago the population was 25,000 and many other things that have added an extra something to our three months here.
This museum is a bit old and some of the exhibits show their age, but the section on the oil and gas industry is actually quite interesting as is the collection of islamic art and jewels. Worth a short visit if you have your own car.
Quite an interesting place to visit. We caught the 39 Bus for $1.00 each way which was quite an experience. That said the museum was nicely presented and it gave some more background to Brunei's development, history and culture. A nice way to spend an hour or two.
It was ok when we finally got there. Map wasn't very good and it was alot further than we thought, ended up getting a local to take us and return us to our hotel afterwards for $15.00 as it is difficult to hale a taxis.
The Islamic items showcased here are worth the visit to this museum which is about a 10-minute drive from the town centre. A detailed history of the Brunei Sultanate is also on display, as are a Natural History section, and a room displaying the history of Brunei's O&G history.
