Hanoi traffic has to be seen to be believed. West Lake provides an oasis in the middle of an incredibly busy city. With temples and beautiful tree-lined streets around its edge, local Vietnamese perambulate and scooter around West Lake for fun and for love. It's a lovely environment and tourists are warmly welcomed into the many bars and restaurants lakeside.

Very nice walk around the lake. A wonderful break from the business of the market! We were caught in a major rainstorm and had a wonderful time in one of the lakeside cafes.

Can give it a miss if you don't have time. The lake looks really ordinary, nothing as compared to the one in China. But there is a temple nearby which I took some pictures. The temple looks fine for photography purpose

West Lake is so beautiful, I love strolling around it and sometimes sitting in park bench to watch its beauty. However, many hawkers there makes me feel disappointed, they insist the walkers in buying their products. In addition, when I wanted to sit in bench, they asked me to buy theirs if not I was asked to go because it... More

On advice from hotel staff we took a trip by cab to Westlake. We asked the driver to take us part way around the lake then walked part of the 13km lakeside path. The area is fairly upmarket and the home to several embassies and is where many of the expats live. If you are enthusiastic enough you can cycle... More

The lake is very large, and it's very beautiful. Go around it if you have time. The best thing to do is sit under the trees and have a cold drink or fresh coconut.

the lake is big, I recommend you get either a push or motorbike to explore it, you can experience many facets of local life along the shores of this lake so do spend the time.
