So, besides a couple of cooking schools, Patara Elephant Farm have managed to secure the top spot for 'Things to Do in Chiang Mai'. It was an obvious choice for further research when i hit Chiang Mai in September 2011 - and i'm sure you read this review with great anticipation as i had trawled through so much of Trip... More

This was definitely the highlight of our trip to Thailand. A wonderful experience that no on visiting Chiang Mai can miss. There are many elephant farms around Chiang Mai, but Patara is different. You won't see a depressing show with elephants kicking balls or dancing. Instead you will be given an elephant for yourself and you will learn how to... More

I spent a lot of time researching elephant experiences in Chiang Mai because I did not want to support an attraction that exploited elephants for the purpose of entertaining the tourists. With this in mind and based on the reviews already posted on trip advisor I settled on Patara Elephant Farm and I am so glad I did. I could... More

A lovely experience and well worth the money paid. the elephants are well looked after. and it is nice that you get your own elephant for the day. The question is, can you get the same experience somewhere else for cheap? sorry I don't know. If you have the money this is the one to do. Very well organised! More

Chose patara elephant farm as an activity as I wanted to see elephants upclose in a safe environment for everyone. I chose this farm as it appeared cruelty free on the website, and had great reviews on trip advisor. On reflection, think it is actually too dangerous for anyone to do. The elephants got very upset while we were there,... More

A great day out, well worth the extra cost. We shared an Elephant which worked out well. Great Staff and a generous tasty lunch. More

Amongst many highlights, this was the overall winner during my 15 night travels around Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phi Phi and Phuket. The setting alone for this trip, dubbed 'elephant owner for a day' is amazing in itself; lush green hills and paddy fields. Add to this the sight of elephants roaming, and its something special. Each visitor is allocated their... More

I loved this tour. The speach by the owner first was a bit too much and I am not sure I fully bought into the whole being one of a kind place. Anyway, there were a few learnings about elephants, including feading them to make friends, health inspection, brushing the elephants and then scrubbing them in the stream. This was... More

I read the other great reviews before booking. Now that our family experienced it , we agree with all the rave reviews. The elephants look Happy! They appear to be healthy and well cared for. I felt a bit intimidated to ride my elephant bare back, but when my daughter in law with her 22 month old strapped on her... More
