I love the fact that it is guaranteed to view the Rhions at a relatively close rang and after; have the option of having a relaxing meal or drinks back at the reception centre.
Spectacular to see rhino's although this is really a zoo
Koen L - I am sorry you see a 7000 Ha rhino sanctuary where rhino walk in the wild, do not get fed, do not get touched as a Zoo. Rangers do monitor them 24/7 for their own safety - South africa lost 446 rhino to poaching in 2011 and already over 60 to poaching in 2012 ! Clearly the... More
Well managed, Zziwa Rhino sanctuary is the best idea that Rhinos got to get back to their habitats before getting extinct . Rhino Fund Uganda helps with both the animals inside the sanctuary and in the community at large.
We visited early January 2012 on our way to Murchison Falls. The sanctuary is doing a gret job as a breeding place for the reintroduction of rhinos in the wild in Uganda but it is not a thrilling thing to see. We were taken by a guide to see a group of 4 rhinos. We walked about 20 minutes through... More
Seb-trotter - Usd 30 per person for on foot rhino tracking does sound expensive. Just a reminder that this sanctuary does not receive funding and the money you paid for the rhino track was a contribution to the running of this rhino reintroduction program. Thank you very much for the contricbution, every single person that does the rhino tracking and... More
A great experience with a range of accommodation, and very helpful staff. The food however is rather basic and limited due to the location.
NIce to see that they have this program to be able to get Rhino's back into the wildparks in Uganda after the Idi Amin period. We saw 6 of the 10 Rhino's that the have. Their restaurant is overpriced, but the food is OK. However you might be better of eating somewhere else.
JJC_NL - As our guests are travellers and important to us, we only buy the best quality meat from a registered butcher in Kampala and keep it frozen with gas freezers to ensure it is safe for visitor consumption. You could probably eat a lot cheaper along the road where meat is slaughtered locally under very un-hygenic circumstances, animals have... More
Great guides, great nature experience and now that the Amuka Safari Lodge is open, first class accommodation is available right inside the conservancy.
We enjoyed our visit and found it very encouraging that the sanctuary was working hard at rehabilitating the white rhino into Uganda. We had a good walk around with a guide and saw three of the young rhinos that have been born at the sanctuary.
