We heard about the petroglyphs from a fellow hiker at White Sands, and having a couple of spare hours, we made the trip up Highway 54 to the site. This is a BLM site (not a national park) but it has a Ranger office, bathrooms, parking and picnic tables. The Ranger was super helpful and provided us with a couple... More

The Ranger will give you a one sheet that show several petroglyphs and it can be used like a treasure hunt to make the half mile hike go unnoticed! There is a vista that allows you to see both the black lava flow to the east and the white sands to the west. Our kids hikes another half mile or... More

Stopped for a short visit. You could probably spend hours hiking around looking for petroglyphs. I was there for an hour and didn't even make it very far. Not wheelchair or stroller accessible. A good amount of rough uneven stairs to get up to the rocks. I enjoyed my visit and plan to return for a longer visit with the... More

We visited here with our three kids (11, 9, and 7). We had a great time climbing around the rocks looking for the petroglyphs. You can climb all over and don't have to stay on the trail. It was fun for the kids to try to find the ones in the brochure. It was a bit out of the way.... More

We spent 2 nights at the Three Rivers campsite and did the trail #44 hike for Spring Break. The petroglyphs are a must see while you are there. Our camp host John was the man! Coolest guy you could ever meet, and very knowledgeable about the area. It was a great trip and I plan to return in the future.... More

We loved this experience! It's located about one hour from white sands. You will not see a road sign though until you get close and it was hard to pickup on our GPS on mapquest but it's a short 4 mile drive off the highway. The rocks are located on a short hill and you walk up a trail to... More

Three Rivers Petroglyphs park is hidden along NM Highway 54. There are adequate signs to point you in the correct direction but when I say hidden I mean that not many people visit the site. Visitors can see thousands of authentic petroglyphs all along a passable trail that winds gradually up a ridge. The trail is a little rough, but... More

I love these little roadside parks that are developed for those of us who like to ponder things a little deeper than the latest Twilight movie. It's a simple little park, with running water restrooms (not porta-potties), a brief map, and a few campsites. This place is well cared for, and what I especially love is that it's not overdone.... A few hours spent wandering the path through the park rewards you with some amazing and numerous petroglyphs. A slow walk through the site takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours and is a fairly easy walk for just about anyone that doesn't need assistance walking. It can be done faster if you are into breezing past the sites. There's... More
