Of course no trip would be complete without visiting at least one distillery, especially because it is one of Kentucky's trademarks. Just think about it....when you think of Kentucky what comes to mind? Sipping Whiskey and Horses, and Bluegrass. Kentucky produces the best bourbon in the world due to the limestone rich water and the handmade oak barrels. We chose... More

The Kentucky Bourbon Trail has led to many successful day trips from Cincinnati. Each distillery is within two hours driving distance and driving through Kentucky is fantastic! Rolling hills, horse farms, and other picturesque views are constant on the way to any of the distilleries. Some of them offer free admission while others charge a minimal fee. Tours and tastings... We have done the trail three times now and still have not seen them all, I presume we are getting slower in our old age. On our last trip we did Woodford, Willet , Makers Mark and visited Heaven Hill but were to late for a tour. We were there that weekend as it was an invite for Makers Mark... More

Hard to do all 7 Distilleries due to the long distance (Jim Beam will be the one we just could not get to...). They all seem to have a similar story to share - All Bourbons are Whiskeys...not all Whiskeys are Bourbons...and other similar statements. But that's ok. If you like Bourbon, you'll enjoy the tours, smells, barrel char, fermentation,... More

I took the long way around to get from Toledo to Nashville, and after an overnight in Lexington, KY I noticed the exit signs on I 60 Westbound listed one or two distilleries. Being a curious traveler and wanting to support the local economies, I stopped at the first one, Four Roses, a few miles up a Kentucky country road.... More

We are not bourbon drinkers and our only similar experience was touring a winery in the Loire Valley, France. Two years ago we toured the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, KY while on a trip to Lexington and enjoyed it so much that we toured the Heaven Hill Distillery and the Maker's Mark Distillery this April during a trip to... Mom and I decided to do the KY Bourbon Trail when we were invited as ambassadors to a Markers Mark function. We started in Lex at Town Branch and did manage to hit all 7 to fill our passports. Town Branch has a WONDERFUL KY Bourbon Barrel Ale that is the best beer we've ever tasted. The folks at all... More

My family and I completed the Kentucky Bourbon Trail in 2012 before Town Branch was added. We visited Four Roses, Wild Turkey, and Woodford Reserve in April and Jim Bean, Maker's Mark, and Heaven Hill in December. I was raised in Kentucky, and I thought this was a great way to learn about an important element of my Kentucky heritage.... More

Since we had our 5 year old with us, we took it easy on the bourbon and mixed in Churchill Downs, hiking, and swimming. As for the distilleries, we toured Maker's Mark and Woodford. The facilities at Maker's are clean and modern, but all of the old structures and landscapes are there, so it's very pretty. The gift shop is... More
