The memory of Majdanek stays with me more than Aushwitz-Birkenau. Possibly that's because there were so few people in the snow of early April 2013 and it became more of a much more personal experience. If you go in the winter or when there is snow on the ground, it might be even more powerful than other times. In non-peak... More

Majdanek offers a detailed insight into the holocaust. Not suited to under 14s. Allow 2 hours to take it all in. Take comfortable shoes, as you walk at least 3 miles around the camp. Very atmospheric. Easy to get to by trolleybus 156 from Lublin centre.

One of the most informative of the former concentration camps. A lot of information in English available on signs throughout the camp and in the exhibitions. Prepare to spend about 90-120 minutes here if you want to see and read everything.

I said "experience" rather than "visit" as the visit tends to have positive connotations. This will not be a happy "visit" but it will be an important life "experience". While surely not as well known as Auschwitz, Majdanek is not less important historically. Much of the camp is intact and all is well maintained. From Warsaw this is an easy... More

As much as you should never like going to a place like this I found it very interesting, shocking, brutal, informative and was also amazed at the well preserved nature of the camp. If I have any negative comments they only lie with the small amount of information (not just in English but Polish as well as all other languages).... More

This extermination and concentration camp is very moving and horrifying. You can see in the museum and the gas chamber and ovens the horrors that took place in the camp during the war and not just against jews. The most shocking thing for me was to see the orderly documentation, organization charts, invoices for selling human hair, etc., to understand... More

Easily covered in a few hours but the horrors still hit you. Disappointed that the now famous shoe collection was not on display or we were not informed. If you like to visit camps do put this one on your list. Information centre staff could be a bit more friendly and helpful. One girl was very nice but I felt... More

Possibly even more mind-blowing than Auschwiz/ Birkenau simply because it is virtually untouched since the Red Army pulled out. The scale of the camp is enormous and when I was there I had the place to myself; you could actually walk into the gas chambers and peer into the ovens.
