It's the best way to view whales, dolphins and mountains while in New ZealandIn a typical 30 minute flight you will see the majestic Sperm Whale preparing for his next dive and up to 500 Dusky Dolphins playfully swimming. Occasional sightings include Southern Right, Humpback, Fin, Sei, Brydes, Pilot, Southern Bottlenose and Blue Whales. Other, less frequent, visitors to the area include Common, Hectors, Risso's and Southern Right Whale Dolphins, and Orca.

On any given day flights are available to go whale watching in Kaikoura...If you should have a spare hour or so then do it...chance of a lifetime to see these magnificent creatures from above, the sea is clear and although its not a guarantee that you will see any whales it's a joy to see the coast and mountains from...

We were rebooked from the boat to the plane because of the bad weather. But we could not fly either because the weather got worse. Set out on a warm,sunny day full of hope that this time will be the time I see a whale. Well, we saw 4, yes 4, with dolphins and seals thrown in for free. A wonderful day I shall never forget.

We saw one teenaged male sperm whale. Both my husband and I had a window seat on the same side of the plane so we saw the same thing when our pilot circled around the whale for about 5 min till he dove down. The flight is only 30 min which is a little risky since whales can stay down...

Spent a few more days in Kaikoura and decided we had to try another "Wings Over Whales" flight. Yay!!! Wasn't disappointed. we went in July on a lovely sunny day. great views of a couple of whales and hundreds of dolphins. our pilot was very friendly and professional (but only 23!) and he put us at ease. go!
