This was a pleasant area in the main town area. It had a number of other attractions (eg Claphams Clocks) in the area. A nice area to walk around.

Really nice marina to wander around and then eat/drink in one of the cafes or bars/restaurants. Worth strolling down the estuary to read the historical info.

The Town Basin is very lovely. However, it seems to us that Whangerei doesn't make enough of this gem. The shops and cafés all close far too early. The Basin is the town's best asset and they seem to squander it.

Really atmospheric basin. Lots of restaurants, cafes, boats, of course, and a great boarded walk right to the end of the promontary with loads of information and sculptures

We stopped here for lunch while driving from Auckland to Russell on the Bay of Islands. In addition to the well-kept buildings, and interesting shops, the interpretative display boards along the walk in the park of the re-developed waterfront were very helpful in understanding some of the history of the area.

We loved the town centre location and the pub / restaurant overlooks the marina. The food was simply outstanding - we had the 'new twist' Thai Salad with crispy noodles and the two specials of the day : fish and shrimp and avocado salad. Service was prompt if a little impersonal but the food and location made it a great... More
