It is rather nice that a small city like Launceston can have a pleasant little place like the city park available so close to the city centre. The park is a wonderful refuge for the travel weary.

Definitely worth a visit if you only have a day or two in Launceston, and you can go for 10 mins or two hours. Japanese Macaques are very easy to watch (especially with kids). There are lots of very smooth paths for scooters and bikes, a great little playground, and acres of lush lawns with magnificent old trees. A small... More

City Park is filled with meandering pathways lined with big shady trees, ducklings in the pond,a conservatorium boasting all the colours of nature, and just when you think you've seen it all... a large glass enclosure of monkeys. If there was seating around the area then people would never leave. It's pure delight watching these amazing creatures play and nurture... More

I don't like monkeys jumping on me, as in SE Asia, so was relieved to see the animals were in a compound. They are Japanese monkeys, so probably do not mind the cold. The little ones were really cute. They were rushing around, leaping on each other having a great game. We watched them for quite a while. The rest... More

We strolled through here after brunch and spent a good 20mins fascinated by the Monkies. The lawns were well manicured and the flowers in season were in full bloom. Most relaxing.

Beautiful gardens. Immaculately kept. The monkeys were fascinating. My daughter loved it. Parking might be a problem on weekends.
