Eat fab fish n chips in Seaport, then wander along to catch the Lady Launceston boat up the Gorge or for a longer trip along the river. The guide/Captain is friendly and informative and when the boat reaches the Gorge it switches to a silent electric engine so you can appreciate the grandeur and atmosphere of the place. Well worth... A great way to spend a few hours. Whether you do the 2 hour cruise or the 4 hour cruise with wine and cheese tastings and lunch thrown in you will enjoy the "history lesson" as you cruise up the Tamar looking at the scenery along the river banks and appreciating how hard the early settlers had to work to... It's hard to miss the river and there are so many walks along various parts of it that there is no excuse not to get out of you car and meander along it. Lots of birds to see and learn a bit about the history of Launceston shipping.

A trip up and down the Tamar Valley is a must - wineries, great eateries, superb views, Lavendar House etc are all wonderful!! However don't drive past the Wetlands! This is a must stop for all lovers of the environment and wetlands flora & fauna and birds in particular. Fantastic staff - very knowledgeable and helpful. Put aside a couple... More

Looks good at high tide, but you can see the silty bottom at other times. A sad result of upstream land clearing.

We walked all the way along the river to Cataract Gorge and it's very flat and easy for anyone, lovely views, boats moored and plenty of restaurants/cafes along the way to stop for a coffee.

Driving up the West Tamar is lovely with lots of little stops and towns along the way. Lovely pubs and good food here and there. Every corner is a photo opportunity. The East Tamar is different again. More isolated but some nice hamlets and things to see all the way to Lowhead. Take one day to do one bank and... More

Liked the two young guys who skippered the boat - very friendly and informative. Unfortunately, we could only take the 50min. cruise, so saw othing spectacular.
