This hike was the highlight of our two weeks on the south island. The views are incredible, and most of day 2 is above treeline where you can see 360 degrees of unspoiled natural beauty. Make sure to do the two optional side trips to key summit and conical hill, they are well worth the effort. We went with Ultimate... More

Loved this track. Had snow in January on first day. Then stunning weather. Harris Pass and Conical Hill were stunning with lovely views. Lake McKenzie was a great place for a brief swim. Loved this walk. Do it. More

Our family did a 3 day hike from the Divide toward Queenstown. Stayed one night at MacKenzie hut and another at Routeburn Falls. The scenery was amazing, huts comfortable (need DOC reservations), and trails well maintained with very moderate changes in elevation. We had no problems covering distance with full packs - in plenty of time (we're in our 50's).... More

My husband and I spent 10 days in the south island around the Christmas and new year holiday. We did the 3-day-2-night Routeburn tramping trip and we were absolutely impressed with the views. It's definitely the highlight of our trip. We were awe-struck at every corner we turned. We were fortunate to have perfect sunny weather the entire trip which... More

We had a crystal clear day with a slight breeze which was perfect for tramping, and the views were spectacular. The track... More

The trail is so good I didn't notice the 12" of snow accumulating until I got to the top and had trouble finding the little nature trail. Too bad the clouds didn't part for a few minutes to see the views but it felt good to get out and about. More

Unfortunately the track was closed for the week we planned to walk it, so only walked to the first hut both ends. This was our second attempt to do it in the last 2 years, but we will return and conquer it eventually!!! A beautiful part of our country. More
