Hello there and thanks for your review of Taieri Gorge Railway. The gorge trip has numerous bridges, viaducts and tunnels and is very exciting for children! You can even stand out on the open air platforms while the the train is moving (children must be supervised by an adult) and the kids find this very exciting.

It far surpassed my expectations. The Train itself is very comfortable and clean, and the Staff super-friendly. Have been on lots of scenic rail trips throughout the world, and this is truly one of the best. Stunning!!

Hello and thanks for your review of Taieri Gorge Railway. Our shortest trip is four hours long but the one to Middlemarch and including the stop over there is six hours in length. Some children do struggle with this but others are absolutely fine. I would highly recommend the shorter trip to Pukerangi for families with children that might not...

Always ready to take a special train ride, particularly narrow gauge or steam, we were truly looking forward this ride on the Taieri Gorge Railway. Our small group had reserved spaces in one of the cars and we took our seats with some excitement. Soon, though, it became clear that with every seat filled and small seats, this was uncomfortably...

We did the deluxe version of this railway tour right from the cruise ship in Port Chalmers. We were first greeted by our hosts, Bob and Eunice, on our assigned car. As we went through Dunedin and began to climb into the hillls, we were treated with Mimosas, then tea with shortbread. just before lunch there were more refreshments offered,...

Our cruise ship called at Dunedin and this was the trip to go for.
Others had told us they did the train ride before and were doing it again!
Amazing natural wonder, to take the train through the gorge. The yellow flowers were stunning.

We were on an organized tour optional trip that was well worth it. Starting at the atmospheric old station, diesel hauled carriages with viewing sections and trip through city, to suburbs, commuter territory to stunning gorge scenery. Plus entertainment from the conductor selling souvenirs! Early morning gives best light. Good way to see the hinterland, train stops at pre-set stops...
