I am sure tunnel beach is good but where is it? We drove around for ages near where it should be without seeing a sign and eventually gave up. Tip: Get a good map.
Tunnel Beach was amazing. We went while the tide was out so we managed to get to the shore at the bottom of the tunnel. Defiantly worth a trip down to look at/photos of, however the walk back to the top is not that easy for the un-fit!
My parents and I were aiming to watch sun rise at tunnel beach but we lost our way to there, it meant to be a 10mins drive end up took us nearly an hour to get there! The sigh on the side of the road is really small, so u have to take extra care when looking for tunnel beach.... More
Tunnel Beach's view is just spectacular. It is an easy one hour return walk. Best time to visit is low tide so you get to explore the beach at the end of the tunnel walk. A little bit of the history: In the 1870’s John Cargill, a son of Captain William Cargill, excavated a tunnel down to a secluded beach... More
This is well worth the walk it is a down hill walk quite steep in places. But the views are fantastic ,take your camera. Keep going to the end you will be rewarded . We did it on a cool day.
A very isolated beach only able to be reached by going through a tunnel dug by Captain Cargill so his kids could get to a beach. It is a steep track, easy to go down by a LONG grunt coming back up to the road. N.B. there is no access August to October because of lambing.
1) Fantastic rock formation 2) Walk down and back up is actually NOT difficult, not dangerous as it was all a nice path with gravel. We took 15 mins to climb back up and I have bad osteoarthritis of the knees. 3) Going through the tunnel to access the beach was very interesting 4) The scenery, the beach everything was... More
This is really a wonderful attraction. The location, the way there, the amazing scenery view, the access from the tunnel to the beach make the experience very unique and special to us. It feels so wild and natural when there is no fencing or any man-made pavement at the site. It feels so real when we are at the cliff... More
Really amazing thing to do in Dunedin. Even if you don't have a car like me you can take a bus pretty close and then walk 1.4 km to the start of the track. Very unique thing!
