The zoo is small, but has wonderful highlights including the Red Panda, Tiger, and Sun Bear exhibits. All the exhibits seem quite updated and the animals seem pretty happy and healthy. Well done zoo that is a nice 2-3 hour tour.

The Welly Zoo is very friendly for the children, one of my best experience so far. The zoo has many points where we can sit and watch one or two animals for a longer time as we wish, then as you head on to the next animal attraction there are plenty of toilets you can use anywhere you need to.... A beautiful zoo, well cared for animals, in well thought out and constructed enclosures. There is always something new to see. Zoo staff are very friendly and keen to stop and talk. A highly recommended way to spend a few hours and it doesn't cost the earth either.

We found this zoo to be charming. It has a very nice cafe with good coffee (always a plus!) and it is laid out nicely and is kind of just a nice experience going through it. We saw a kiwi in the kiwi house, which was exciting. If you are used to large urban zoos, you may think this is... More

Compact, comprehensive, accessible. Don't miss the zoo vets performing live procedures on sick beasties in the glass operating room. They will answer your questions at the same time.

This is one of the smaller zoo's that we've visited. We tend to visit wildlife parks rather than zoo's. We had a 3 and 4 year old with us so the walk around the zoo was just enough for them without feeling too tired. Good talks by staff at the enclosures. Talk time at 10am consisted of 3 members of... We spent most of the day exploring the Zoo with my neice & nephew. If you plan your trip to the Zoo right, you can watch feeding times, meet the Australian Dingo while he's out walking with his trainer and be part of tours that can be quite informative. It is relatively easy to get around and not too big... More

Wellington Zoo has a surprisingly varied collection of species for what is a comparatively small zoo in terms of area. It's compact area means it's not exhausting to get around to see every enclosure, though being Wellington there are some hills and steepish inclines. I didn't think the entry fee was too bad, little more than a movie ticket, I'd... More

Animals very well looked after. You can get quite close. Lovely setting in native bush. The feeding times are interesting as you get a nice commentary. Close Encounters is a great way to get the kids right next to certain animals. Nice souvenir shop and good cafe. We went on a sunday afternoon and it wasn't crowded. A bit expensive... More

I purchased two cheetah encounter tickets as a Christmas present for my partner. We were very lucky to be the only two participants and got to spend 15 minutes with each of the cheetahs, Charlie and Delta (total about 30 fantastic minutes). We got to stroke them, lift up and hold their tails, hear them purr, and learn from their... More
