We spent an entire day in Te Papa and came back the next day. The exhibits are incredible. It was wonderful to see people of all ages enjoying the experience. A first rate museum.
Learnt that the best time to go to Te Papa when there is no crowd. Every time I have been into Te Papa there is a new something to look at/catches my attention//
great educational facility and all for free. Start at the top level and work backwards. The top level changes all the time but the lower levels are constant. Been there 5 times and learn each time
This is justifiably rated as one of the best museums in NZ. There are guided tours or you can do your own thing. Entry to the general displays is free but if you wish to see one of the featured exhibits there is a fee. This is a multilevel building with either stairs or lifts, a cafe and a viewing... More
This isn't a museum in the traditional sense, the displays create a rich tapestry of the history of New Zealand, each providing a story and creating insights into the development of what is current day New Zealand. You do need to allow plenty of time to browse there is just so much to see that its hard to believe that... More
Free admission. Lots of interactive exhibits. Good place to spend an afternoon on the rainy cold day
Liked practically everything about the museum. I guess it would be great for a family with kids. Took a guided tour of the museum - the guide was very knowledgeable and competent. Also, the prices in the shops are better then anywhere else in town
This is awe inspiring and cannot be one in one visit. It covers all aspects of history, life , culture - how New Zealand was inhabited, the earth and sea and their uses - how people live and work together. From the outside, the building is just so-so but once inside, you realise what a masterpiece the whole thing is... More
We skipped the special exhibit and focused on the geological challenges of NZ's islands and the Maori heritage, both well displayed with interesting exhibits. A great extra was the fashion display with contributions from many NZ artists and citizens. And the cost was tremendous (free).
