Not a bad day out but you need to rush to see the whole island and the lava caves are a bit disappointing.

Climb up the mountain Look back at the view of the city. Walk around the island. Swim in its many bays and inlets. Have a picnic.

30 minutes travelling on the ferry and you could get in there, the active volcano of Auckland. Hiking to the top was too easy to do, just took time, around 2 hours I think. The view of Auckland from Rangitoto's peak was amazing. But, remember the operating time of the ferry, must be there on time as scheduled!

We booked the Volcano Explorer the day before as my wife was still convalescing from foot surgery. The weather was good and the ferry trip out fine. the ferry trip over and back was great. We didn't do the full trip in the bus to the crater - we just walked around ourselves and had a lovely visit

You have to do this trip, nature is a wonderful thing and the views from the top are phenomenal. Take water with you if its really hot as its quite a climb. We love it

Took the Ferry across to Rangitoto Island and spent a good day wandering around and checking out the Volcanic rock etc. very interesting day out.

This was one of my most memorable experiences from Auckland. As a love for nature and hikes, this one is a definite must ! Take a great hike throughout the walk trail, its safe and million dollars views as you get higher to the summit.
