We visited New Norcia as part of a two week tour of WA. I was pleasantly surprised how interesting this museum is . . It has photos and personal artifacts that belonged to the founders of the Benedictine Mission in New Norcia. The information on how they related to the Aboriginal population of the area is particularly interesting. Upstairs the... More

It is amazing - one minute you are driving in the midst of farms and bushland and the next, a fabulous building (New Norcia Hotel) appears back from the highway, rather conspicuous in the bush. Amazing. This whole area is worth a good one day to take in the wonderful history of Australia's only monastic town. Book into the tour,... More

We arrived late one evening and were able to book into the guest house at the monastery (see review once accepted). The next day having wandered the site first thing we did the tour and looked briefly around the museum. You can do a free self guided tour but you don't get access to all the buildings. It is the... It was a day before decision to travel 2 hours from north Perth to New Norcia. We had been told about it by family who live in Perth. So pleased we went. So much history about Australian Education and the Monks. The buildings are beautiful. This small town pops up in the middle of the highway. Pay for the whole... More

We visited the small town of New Norcia north-east of Perth recently on the recommendation of some friends. The town on the outside is very small, dusty, lots of flies - but what a treasure-trove of history & amazing art is housed within the walls of the buildings. We went on a conducted tour (an absolute MUST) led by Staff... More

I had a very pleasant stay at the Moora Caravan Park, which is quite small and well laid out. Walking distance to the town. I could recommend this caravan park. When I left there I visited New Norcia. What a fantastic town. The Benedictine Monks built their monasteries, churches, chapels etc from 1847. There is a definite feeling of "calm"... More

The whole village of New Norcia is owned and run by the Benedictine order of monks who among other things sell bread, nut cake, beer and wine from the museum shop. Take the time to be there for the walking tour at 11 and 1.30 and get a real insight into the way these monks live and the legacy they... More

If you are on your way to The Pinnacles it may be worth a little stop at this place. New Norcia was the place for a Benedictine Abbey settled about 150 years ago. It became a mission for the local Aboriginal people with a school but also for workers. There is a rambling complex of several buildings some dating back... More

stopped by new norcia on the way to the pinnacles. basically there's nothing there except for the monastery and the surrounding buildings in the middle of nowhere. there's a hotel for accomodation and meals. the museum shows the history of the place and how it was established. there are also day tours that cover the details which i didnt participate.
