We drove up to Mt Wellington in the hope the cloud might have cleared from its peak by the time we arrived there and had no luck. Our helpful hotel concierge had suggested this alternative. Mt Nelson is much lower (about 1/3 the height) of Mt Wellington, keeping it below the cloud line. The views are great across the harbour... More

We came here after going to MT Wellington and not seeing a thing there. Here we could see everything as you are not up as high. Proabably not as good a view but a nice little bit of history surrounds here, so you can spend an hr or so looking around and taking photos. So its a good alternative to... More

A signal station was built here over 100 years ago to signal ships entering the harbor, the government in Hobart, and the prison. Thus, there is an unmatched view near downtown Hobart. In the old station tower is a panoramic photo of the view with all of the prominent points labeled. This makes it very helpful for identifying what you... More

We drove here for lunch at the Signal Station cafe but we were amazed by the incredible view. The Signal Station has an excellent photo mural which names the points of interest for the visitor to see. It also has some interesting history about the purpose and use of the Signal Station. The view really highlights the beauty of this... More

If you have extra time in Hobart, do drive up to Mt Nelson. The scenery is superb and you can have a good view of Hobart too.

We drove up Mount Nelson having gooten in the wrong lane for Mount Wellington. The views were nice though some were a bit obscured by the growth on the trees which weas a little disappointing. We were also a bit disappointed the cafe was shut so we couldn't have an ice cream.

easier to get to than Mt Wellington and not as cold, but still a great view. Walk up the Truganini track from Taroona if you want some exercise, and refresh yourself at the cafe at the top!

Amazing views from the top. It's a pretty windy drive to the top but it doesn't take long from downtown Hobart. Definitely worth a visit. Be prepared however, it can be much colder at the top that in Hobart. We left Hobart in 16 degree weather (chilly) and arrived at the top to 3 degrees!!!!

Lovely cafe and restaurant at the top. Great views and also for the hikers, mountain bikers or fitness enthusiasts there are bush tracks down to Taroona or Sandy Bay, really worth doing if you have time. ask a local or look up books with walking tracks detailed.

I really liked the way up between the resential houses. The many U-turns you have to make and it goes quite steep up. The lookout is ok, not great. A lot of trees in front of you so you cant see whole Hobart. There is also a restaurant where you can eat something. If you go around Dawn, you will... More
