The botanical gardens is surrounded by centenary lakes, which are also worth a good look. Maps where so hard to understand I suggest going to the botanic info center first and getting a map then making your way back through the lakes. Hint: its not as big as it looks on the map.

The Cairns botanical garden is around 15 min drive from Cairns. It has a lot of tropical plants, not much in term of flowers. Maybe our expectation is high but I was a bit disappointed after being there. Entrance fee is free!

Conveniently located close to the airport, this is a great place to spend an hour or two admiring the wonderful plants local to this area. There is an enclosed Orchid house, and fernery. Pathways meander around waterways and you would be hard pressed to remember that you are in fact still in a city!

A must visit place for those who enjoy nature. Beautiful, very well designed and very well maintained, pleasant place to enjoy the luxury of tropical plants. Bushwalking track is a must-do thing!! Nothing too terribly exciting for a photographer.

I love these gardens, not matter what time of year I visit. My dad (a local) told me there wouldn't be much to see at this time of year (May) but we still spent a couple of hours there admiring all the beautiful colours and textures of the foliage alone. These are tropical gardens, not Cairns or North QLD gardens,... More

I've never seen such a varied and beautiful collection of plants and trees, many in full bloom in late Summer. Unfortunately the art show in the "Tanks" was closed that day. Suggest you check when it is open and time visit to see both.

This was a wonderful morning trip! I would have liked to have spent more time here, but went with others who were ready to go. I took a walk on the Blue Arrow trail which was a great walk up the hillside. At the top there were stunning views of Cairns City and the airport. Fun to do. I even... More

All the gardeners out there will be amazed by the diversity of tropical plants not seen in colder climates. An oasis of calm in a quiet suburb. Eat lunch at the very good cafe.
