Go for the views of the harbour, but don't expect too much of the ferries themselves. They are utilitarian means of transport, not pleasure cruisers, but on a nice day it's a trip well worth while and Manly is an interesting and, given its fame, surprising mix of old and modern.

Convenient and quick service across to Manly Beach from Circular Quay - Excellent beach and nice ferry ride with good views from the top deck.

Peak hours can be crowded and best avoided but great way to see the harbour and spend a few hours in Manly. If the weather is warm-hot, the Manly beaches are worth spending time on.

The ferry provided an inexpensive way to see the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, and the Harbour itself. The ferry takes about a half hour each way, and it is just a few blocks from the ferry terminal to the beach itself (with shops, restaurants, and at least one grocery store along the way). Highly recommended
