My husband and I found Minard Castle, hoping to walk around it. It is now on private land and inaccessible to the public. However, the setting is beautiful, and it's definitely worth a short detour to see.

Minard Castle is definitely worth the bit of time it may take to find it. We visited in May 2009 on our way from Dingle to Killarney. From the N86, I believe we veered right in Churchfield, took the next right, and then went straight to the coast. If you map Minard online, you will get a sense of when...

Stumbled on Minard Castle while driving around the peninsula. What a great setting and a glimpse into Ireland's past. We just sat on the beach for about an hour and enjoyed the setting. The intire time we were there, we saw 7 total people. Worth the drive to find this small beach and castle.

This can be seen from the main road and is well worth a detour. Attacked by Cromwell and built on what is now private land. Take a look at the stones on the beach - they are huge! Proof that Ireland once lay on the Equator. Take a look.

This is a very well hidden castle. Took us two trips to find this place. It was an very pretty castle but I am not sure if it was worth two trips and getting lost because it was not in our GPS and the maps did not help.

Visited Dingle two weeks ago. Stopped here on the way to Slea Head. Our guide advised us not to even get next to the castle, because the stones are unstable. In fact, some of the road signs have been removed. The state of destruction of the castle (blown up by some of Oliver Cromwell's forces) just makes it look that...

This castle is set in a beautiful bay and the scenary is fantastic BUT it is marked under private property with a lot of barbed wire fencing. It's pretty easy to hop the fence but we didn't. I'm sure there's a reason they don't let you climb on the ruins anymore to enjoy the view. It is still a great...

To get to Minard coming from Dingle, turn right in Anascual onto the R561. Just follow the signs and the road will lead right to castle, set on a hill above a rocky beach. The castle is almost a prototypical Irish ruin--not in as good shape as say Ballycarbery in Cahersiveen, but nevertheless the fit and couragous can do a...
