When the weather is good, it's lovely up there. When it's cold you can't do a lot, but they do serve hot soup and german sausage.

Okay scenery but nothing special. Germany's natural beauty is limited so I suppose this is okay. It's. very expensive though.

Beautiful train ride through unspoilt countryside. Arrived at Brocken in snow, lovely food at the restaurant at the top. Excellent value for money. The whole journey is like stepping back in time.

A good though not cheap ticket brings you to the absolute top of the Harz. Pick a sunny and clear day or be prepared for a mountain in absolute fog. This is a really great experience - even for non train-spotters like me! The journey up and back would be great for kids. The views are fantastic, make sure you have a camera to hand!

Great day out, however, the weather went from bright sunshine at Drei Annen Hohne to cold wet sleet on the top of the Brocken (and then back to bright sunshine on the way back down). The actual ride itself is pretty boring, with no views through the pine trees. It is probably better in winter, and especially when there is snow on the ground.
