When the weather is good, it's lovely up there. When it's cold you can't do a lot, but they do serve hot soup and german sausage.

Okay scenery but nothing special. Germany's natural beauty is limited so I suppose this is okay. It's. very expensive though.

New Years day trip from Wernigerode to Brocken on a special train. Lunch was included in the price. Once we really started to climb up high the snow really started! Walking to the nearby restaurant in a blinding blizzard was great fun (thankfully only a short distance!). Well worth a visit though it may take a few goes to find... More

Beautiful train ride through unspoilt countryside. Arrived at Brocken in snow, lovely food at the restaurant at the top. Excellent value for money. The whole journey is like stepping back in time.

A good though not cheap ticket brings you to the absolute top of the Harz. Pick a sunny and clear day or be prepared for a mountain in absolute fog. A lovely little steam train creeps its way up to the mountain which gave Goethe his witchdecorum in his Faust. You might want to stay overnight because of the atmosphere... More

It's a good day out, especially if you like steam trains. Changing trains at Drei Annen Hohe is interesting, as you can see how steam trains work. The journey up the mountain is exciting - at first you can see nothing, then a spectacular view! The views from the top of the Brocken itself are magnificent, but it was very... More

This is a really great experience - even for non train-spotters like me! The journey up and back would be great for kids. The views are fantastic, make sure you have a camera to hand!

Great day out, however, the weather went from bright sunshine at Drei Annen Hohne to cold wet sleet on the top of the Brocken (and then back to bright sunshine on the way back down). The cafe at the top of the Brocken was extremely busy, probably due to the bad weather however the journey back down was very comfortable... More

The actual ride itself is pretty boring, with no views through the pine trees. It is probably better in winter, and especially when there is snow on the ground. Everything was closed when we got to Brocken - usual east german hospitality. We thought it was an expensive trip - 32 euros each for the return trip from Drie Annen... More
