It appears that most of the museum was left as it was once the Nazis left (except for the glass over the exhibits). There are items that the occupants used (including plates which have the swastika on the underside). Well told story but very eerie being here.

The museum is an actual German bunker that was built during WWII to withstand the Allied invasion that never came. The Germans were convinced that the final offensive landing would be fought in Calais as this is the closest port to England. When the landing took place down the coast in Normandy it caught the Germans by surprise. This is... More

We were a party of 4 adults and 6 children - the youngest being 5 and the eldest 12, so we hesitated about going in at first and then decided to 'give it a go'. We paid 14 euros for a family of 2 adults and 3 children, which included the use of earphone guide equipment. We were all pleasantly... More

Located in the beautiful Parc St Pierre, the museum is housed in a concrete bunker built as a command post by the Germans during the Second World War - which sounds like it might stick out like a sore thumb in a park, but the moss covered walls and surrounding planting soften it surprisingly well. The pock-marked walls demonstrate that... More

Very interesting to visit a museum that expresses the French point of view. There were a great deal of exhibits relating to individuals experiences. The only thing that was not so good was it was a little dark and made reading explanations harder for our old eyes.

Left just like it was in 1944 with hugely interesting displays and stuff to see. Priced right to enter but don't show up near lunch time as it is closed during that period.

Situated in Parc St Pierre which is opposite the Hotel De Ville, this museum is inside part of a second world war German bunker. It tells the story of Calais and the German occupation of World War Two and has an interesting collection of photographs, dioramas, weapons and relics including aircraft parts/engines, uniforms and other genuine artifacts. There are many... More

Near the railway station and across the road from the stunning Town Hall, Calais' War Museum is housed in a huge WW2 vintage German Naval Bunker situated in the town park. It costs around €8 and you walk the length of the bunker down a long corridor. The exhibition rooms are off of the corridor and tell the story of... More

As someone who doesn't really enjoy museums, I found this one worth a good hour of my time - you might want to spend longer there... Entrance is normally EUR 6, however we visited on the 50th Anniversary of its opening and, as a result, it was free. :-) Having said that, it is fully worth the normal entrance fee.... More
