Really liked this little museum. Nostalgia trip with all the old wirelesses. But much more for serious radio enthusiasts, especially those with an interest in WWII communications.
This is a very interesting place to visit run by very dedicated volunteers. The displays vary from 1950s radios to old valve sets, german wartime sets etc etc. All laid out very weel and with that distinctive smeel of hot radio! If you are inetrested in things mechanical do give it a look the volunteers are very keen and helpful... More
An eclectic mix of radio memorabilia from the last century. Much brings back memories of my youth! If its is a subject that interests you, give it a try. Small but interesting
The museum is small but for older fans the exhibits would bring back a lot of memories. Like my fathers 1936 HMV radio that had in my bedroom as a child / teenager, so that I could listen to short wave broadcasts from the world. I spent an hour here but it could have been longer, as I spent time... More
My first ever visit to the Kirkwall Wireless Museum and it is what it says it is. I am a bit of a nerd so for me this... More
Worth a look if you are interested in world wars and communications. We went in for a look with 4 yr & 8 yr old. Not a lot to hold there interest and a small room however for adults it was stocked wall to ceiling with excellent exhibits. not expensive to get in.
this amazing little museum has everything, there is radio's and wireless sets from every era, they even have one from about 100 yrs ago which still works and one which belonged to a british spy,so glad we decided to go in for a look
For anyone with an interest in radio, amateur radio and broadcasting history, this place is a must. Packed full of wonderful old bits and pieces which fascinated my husband!! But, it is in need of a re-structure, re-decoration and general update. More space is also needed or a rotation of displays. All was the same 4yrs ago!! Still, well worth... More
Highly Recommended if your interested in war communications then you must visit here. Is very cheap £250 per adult and kids could spend all day in here if they are interested likes we are. Had a great day out here many times. Great Staff Great place for a day out especially if it raining it is inside.
Orkney wireless museum looked pretty unique from the outside and was recommended to me by the local tourist office. Some interesting things especially WWII British and German radio equipment. For me thats all it really has going for it. Needs more space and would be better if it was a free museum. If you have a spare hour in Kirkwall... More
