Today the palace houses three museums which afford historically authentic insights into the traditions and everyday life of the imperial court: The Imperial Apartments with their original furnishings and decoration, the Sisi Museum with its sensitive staging of the empress' life, and the Imperial Silver Collection which contains a comprehensive range of tableware and other utensils used at the imperial court. « less

Easy access since it's in the old city and it's adjacent to museums, restaurants, etc. Tram right across the 'ring from the palace. Can be very crowded during peak hours, so I recommend early to avoid the mayhem. Beautiful, historical buildings. Immense, but at its peak the empire was large so warranted I suppose.

interesting to walk around, admire architecture and the history behind it, The whole place takes a lot of time - spanish riding school for example has separate entrance.

The impressive palace and the tour of all the wares it takes to run this massive household will floor you. The silverware collection alone will have your eyes popping. But I found the most impressive thing oddly enough were the 1 square metre serviettes folded into pieces of art in the form of animals like birds and fish. I still... More

This was a great site to visit. Your ticket into the building includes three different museums: the Imperial silver collection, the Sisi museum, and the Imperial apartments. While the Imperial silver and dish collection was impression to see...there was a vast amount of displays of dishes and place settings to go through. The Sisi museum I found to be fascinating... There is really so much to see here. We saw the imperial apartments, silver collection, treasury, state hall and Spanish riding school. I highly recommend all of these (although the silver collection may not be to everyone's taste). I think the state hall has been severely underrated. The hall itself is stunning not to mention all the history in the... More

...with all the rooms that are in the Palace (2600 or so of them). I took a tour of the Sisi Museum and also went through the silver display. It's impressive the amount of china, gold and silver that the palace has collected- a local guide I had said it's probably one of the biggest, if not the largest, in... More

The self-guided audio guides to the apartments were excellent, and the rooms were impressive. It was worthwhile to take the 40-room tour. I was surprised that they did not protect the art better by controlling temperature and humidity using A/C. The windows were all open, and it was needed to keep the place from being uncomfortably hot. It was shameful... More

A basic visit here will take several hours. The wait in line went pretty quickly. You automatically get the headsets and they are quite helpful in understanding what you're seeing. The china and silverware collection is unbelieveable. It's easy to get confused by the numbering system here (I had a tough time matching the numbers with what was on the... More

Well worth a visit, and it has the added convenience that the Spanish Riding School is part of the complex.
