We did the tour and it was fascinating, you get to go behind the scenes and get history as well. Enjoyable couple of hours with a very knowledgeable guide
The self-serve audio guide is a great introduction to both this theatre and theatre making. As the theatre is still in use, you may be as lucky as I was - a tenor was auditioning and the space was full of beautiful sounds.
If you have interest at all in theatre this is makes for an interesting short visit. The display is very well organised and the theatre itself is a delight. Afterwards we decided to book for a performance but unfortunately it was fully booked for the nights of our stay.
Are you in Valletta/ Malta at christmas you MUST see the pantomime!!! It is always terrific!!! We loved it, and the theatre is a museum in its own!
How often can you attend a performance at a theatre that has been in use since 1732? The Manoel Theatre has been beautifully restored and features stage or music productions every week, and every day on occasional weeks. There was a concert during our week in Valletta and we thoroughly enjoyed both the performance and visiting this unique building.
Ideally visited to see a performance, the audio self-guided tour is good and a quicker alternative that allows you to learn something of the history of this theatre. Finally you reach the auditorium where you can enjoy the beautiful baroque architecture and decoration.
The theatre auditorium is splendid. The history of the theatre (originally built in 1731) is very interesting. The visit includes an audio guide through the museum and then into the auditorium. The museum was a bit of a mixed bag but overall worth seeing. But the inside of the theatre was the special bit.
During our holiday we booked stall seats to see Peter Sadlow the percussionist. As there's no air-conditioning our end of row stall seats were fine.
