This is the only monument wordlwide, that serves as the living history of Saint Demetrius, and it definetely worths a visit. Difficult to park, its better to walk up the church.
This is the biggest church in Thessaloniki and one of the biggest basilicas in Europe, devoted to the city's patron saint. It was built upon a roman church and was destroyed several times. Underneath of the church, lie the catacombs, where the first Christians met. I was married in this church and I will always remember the ceremony.
It is a big church with an interesting crypt where St Dimitrios was imprisoned. It is well preserved, despite the earthquakes that have destroyed some parts of it.
