So old, so down to earth and close to heaven as well... So byzantine with ancient greek remnants around... So Greek...
Everything is unique: the church, the view from outside, the lady who is responsible and of course the wall painting
Nice church, not so easy to find. Unfortunately no pictures allowed inside the church. It worths the visit
If you manage to find this little chapel of the byzantine period, hidden in the narrow streets of the old town, though near the city centre, you'll be in the oasis of a green and quiet garden. Take your time to admire the preserved Paleologean period frescoes, some of the few left in such a good condition in Greece. Open... More
We prowled inside and outside of this church, that still has service today. Outside and across the street one goes down a set of steps to see catacombs that date back to the first and second century. The actual church of St. Nicolas is below the street level and is beautiful! Once inside and to the right, one can see... More
hardly a church and more of a chapel, this romantic building sits in a charming garden; well worth the effort of the walk (and search)
Old church hidden in the narrow streets of Ano Poli. It's well worth the visit even though it's not one of the most famous monuments of the city. Can easily be combined with a long walk in the streets of Ano Poli and around the city walls.
Much recommended to walk around the area and step into this church as it's the one of the oldest in Thessaloniki. Take your time to walk by foot - or if you've no energy just take a bus line no 23.
Agios Nikolaos Orfanos is said to be one of the Saints of the orthodox that protected the orpans and that is how he got this name. The church itself is a miracle! Built in a beautiful garden in a narrow street of Ano Poli, the old city, makes you feel you are lost in time... Don't miss it
This Church is way up north and if I remember correctly on the 23 bus line. Either take the walk along the eastern wall or take the bus because you really want to see this. Its a wicked small church, free, and the frescos are (like every books says) AMAZING.
