If you are Greek you feel so proud that you forget all the problems that your country has at the moment!
I would suggest getting a private guide if you want to get the most out of the experience. The climb is difficult and treacherous, so you need to be in good condition
A must see place on anyone's bucket list. Even with the crowds it takes your breath away. The climb to the top is not as bad as it appears and the view from the top is breath taking.
It's a cultural must when in Athens but like every other cultural must it is swarming with tourists. Go early in the morning to avoid the rabble and the midday heat.
What can you really say that hasn't already been said. Go there and be happy. Only negative is don't expect postcard pictures, as there is scaffolding everywhere and will be probably forever.
Get up there early to beat the tourist traffic and the heat. Read up on the history or hire a guide. Our guide, Lily was very knowledgable. Take water with you. Ticket prices are reasonable. They have scaffoldings at certain parts of the temple. Our guide told us that it was not for restorations but for providing support. Great views...

The approach is breathtaking and once you are within yards of this truly amazing structure, you can see all of Athens.
Remolding such a building is kind of crazy anyway - but it has been going on for years. Reduces the power and presence of history.
I would recommend getting to the acropolis in the morning as early as possible. We went at 9am and beat all of the crowds and heat. The ticket was a fair price and included all of the other archeological sights around that we visited. This was a surprise for us as I expected that each sight would cost. The museums...
