If you're into music, especially folk/pop music, this museum is just a gem. It is small, and the visual in the end is secondary to the audio (get that audio guide!), but we were fascinated and thrilled during our time there. We didn't want to leave! You get a background of the history of the artform and some wonderful artwork... More

This is very small museum with few objects to see. However it is certainly very interesting for people who like fado and for those who would like to know more about it's history. I reccomend you take one of the guided tours (around 1 hour 30 minutes), which includes information about fado's history and some live singing by local artists.... More

Located in the heart of Alfama District, associated mainly with this iconic song, the museum has a unique collection in the world of study this cultural expression of Lisbon. The exhibition is a tribute to fado and it's creators & artists promoting it's history from the 19th century Lisbon. A must visit for music lovers and others just wanting to... More

Our 2nd visit to this unique institution was not as mind-blowing as our first several years ago, but it was still a great experience that we would not have willingly missed. It is a fairly large building in a fairly large square in the Alfama district. Entry payment comes with an audio guide that you press at various indicated numbers... More

The Museu do Fado is relatively new, about a decade old, and is devoted to the fado style of music popular in Portugal (although almost unknown outside of the region). Musicians, particularly those interested in regional music, will find the collection interesting, but any non-musicians might find it all too limited to be of great interest. However, you can hear... It was a great blend of music history and Portuguese society. Helps to explain the area. A must visit before walking around. On Sunday it is free.

I've been a fado fan for many years, so it was a real treat to tour this museum. The audio tour was helpful in learning the history of fado, and I loved seeing artifacts, including performers' costumes, on display

Museu do Fado is probably the Museum that tells you the most about Portuguese while showing less. Other Museums might have the best works of art, show Portuguese wonders and achievements but Museu do Fado is the one that will teach who we are, what we are and why we are the way we are. For us, Fado is our... More

In this museum you can travel through fado history. I liked very much the sound of portuguese guitar. All the visuals and sounds were very interesting. Greek visitors will discover a lot of similarities with "rembetiko", especially in the lifestyle of fado artists.
