Ghent has managed to retain it's medieval history through architectural guidelines. New businesses can change the inside but the facade must remain intact. Ghent has a variety of museums to visit from the Industrial Museum to the new Aljin Museum. This historic city provides travellers with a variety of restaurants. If you are in Ghent on a Friday don't miss... More

Beautiful! We walked around for hours and went on a canal tour also. Both were worth it. Chocolate shops are plentiful also and their chocolates are pretty amazing. Lots to see, but it's not tiring. Much more open and more to see than Brugges.

Ghent is truly a city that inspires fairy tales. The whole town is made of the stuff of old time story telling. I can see how travellers prone to childhood nostalgia get that sweet sentiment for the grand town houses on the banks on either side of the river. The ale-houses, the little cosy inns, the church spires dominating the... More

Welcome to this fairy tale city! The houses look like made of ginger bread, covered by specific decoration. Walking in the streets you will see stands with beer in the windows. There are approximately 178 breweries in the country. We were told that the number of bear sorts is close to 800. I have managed to taste only 3 and... More

When I first arrived to Belgium all I heard from everyone was you have to visit Brugges. So we decided to visit Brugges until I was about to leave from work and as I was conversing with a colleague of my he mentioned I should visit Ghent as well... so we did. And we loved this town! We did the... More

One of the must-visit place in Europe, Ghent is a well-preserved historical place that exudes charm and beauty in every corner. It is the old capital of Flanders with most of its old architecture intact and maintained. It just underwent a total restoration, which took uears to finish, and now that the scaffoldings are removed, the beauty of the place... More

Highly recommend a weekend visit to Ghent, a charming medieval Flemish town that used to be the 2nd largest in Europe after Paris between years 1,000 -1,500 ! Beautifully preserved old buildings, canals, Gravensteen castle and the magnificent St. Baaf's cathedral.

Our tour lasted for about 4 hours, not only because of extended insights in history of Ghent, but because of excessive walk several people in our group got problems with their feet and had to buy a new shoes to change the old ones... We had an excellent guide who had not only a lot of knowledge about Ghent history... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We had 11 people in our tour and the guide jumped between French and English flawlessly. We spent lots of time discussing history and viewing the city hall. We did climb steps and walked for the full 2+ hours (not strenuous) There is nothing fancy about this tour just good information and a great overview... More
