Artis Zoo is a 175 year old urban zoo, smack in the center of Amsterdam. It is a great mix of old and new buildings, in a parklike environment with beautiful flower arrangements. And animals. Progressively, the old cramped cages are being replaced by more open walk-through spaces. The new monkey exhibit and the butterfly garden are great. And you... More

An atmosphere that combines 19C hardware with 20C software. Attention to detail (flowerbeds!) shows that this Zoo is run and supported by lovers of nature and Amsterdam. April/May seems a good time to visit as all flowerbulbs spring to life. No special effect attractions but many surprises (butterflies, atmoshere of the Aquarium, pheasantry, 'small mamals' house, reptiles. Catering options could... More

Like: Compact zoo with wandering paths, bilingual exhibits and plenty of benches to sit and observe. Dislike: Many of the animals that I've been fond of have seemingly vanished. Some have been replaced by other interesting animals (Yellow Martens!) but it seems the number and variety have been compromised in order to improve the housing of others. I suppose it's... More

It is great you can spend a day there, there is a lot to see and the flowers are beautiful and the cafés have the most delicious apple cake

All kinds of animals are represented in a traditional outset. The park is in the middle of the city, quite romantic and great fun for kids, but if you care about animals in bigger spaces or even roaming around free in a meadow, this is not your place.

I have been to this zoo a few times, the first time the enclosures seemed very small but with each visit the enclosures get bigger and better each time. The price is steep but so is the price with most things in Amsterdam. Would visit again and again.

This zoo is across the street from the Dutch Resistance Museum, and you can easily do them both in the same day. We went on a cold spring day, but found the animals lively and healthy in appearance, especially the baboons. There is a lemur area where they run loose and you can get close to them for photos. Lots... More

Although they are still working on giving certain animals more room (elephants definitely need more room!), the zoo is clean, green and has a good walking flow. The playground is very nice and restaurant has good food - it's just badly organized that it always takes a lot more time then necessary when it's busy.

We went to Artis and found is really nice for a small family outing with kids. My son enjoyed a lot. You can buy pass for whole year and visit it several time during the year, good for local residents. Best part is its in the city center and easily accessible by public transport. About the zoo, lesser species as... More
