When we visited it turned out only the temporary exhibition was open, which basically meant one room stuffed full with small photographs. The exhibition was very interesting, but for people not interested in photography or with bad eyesight it must have been quiet disappointing. I had hoped to see some Swiss graphic design as advertised on the website, but this... More

Different from other museums of design (like in Copenhagen), the Zürich's museum of design has a very small permanent collection that for many may be disappointing. However, it hosts interesting temporary exhibitions that might be worth visiting. So you should always check the temporary exhibitions before going there. In my visit in March 2013, there were two very interesting temporary... More

When you consider the breadth and depth of design available in Switzerland, whether graphic, architectural, industrial or simply artistic, it comes as a huge disappointment to visit this place, which basically has one large hall dedicated to whatever temporary exhibition is in place at the moment (I was at the one called "Endstation Meer", about plastic garbage in the world's... One floor was completely closed. The only open exhibition was about posters and it wasn't bad at all. But it was the only one available.

i went to an exhibition on posters and crime film, which was well set up, but ultimately disappointing for a museum that claims to represent great design.

I gather that they don't have a permanent collection on display, so it's rather dependent on what's on at the time. When I visited, the exibition was about waste plastics and how harmful they are to nature, especially in the sea, which to be honest wasn't really very design-relevant. Luckily at the time it was free (I think it will... More

When I visit there, the admission was free and the exibition was about wasted plastics. The main topic was how harmful they are to nature, especially in the sea. This problem is not well known but can be a big issue in the future. Worth visiting very much.

They had a Frietag bag exhibit when we went. Close to main station in Zurich.

We saw the Frietag Out of the Bag exhibit and the Swiss posters/graphics exhibit and it was AWESOME. Both the English explanations everywhere and the way the exhibit was constructed, I recommand whole heartedly!
