The duomo itself is quite impressive but not outstanding. What is really interesting is the Museum which contains a wealth of architectural, archeological and artistic exhibits, beautifully displayed in the crypt which dates back to Roman times. First class.

I recommend spending time here just relaxing--bring a chair and sit outside awhile. Also do stop by the Jalal Art Gallery--this artist has amazing depictions of Assisi and San Rufino. He is in the same plaza as San Rufino.

As you travel up the narrow roads of the town you come to San Rufino. A place also sacred a full of memory of a time past. The Duomo needs about an hour to look and soak in.

This is the cathedral or main church of Assisi, dedicated to bishop Rufinus of Assisi, martyred in the 3rd century, who is the patron of Assisi. The church is very interesting, with history dating from 12th century and is definitely worth the visit. The facade, in Romanesque style, was built with stones from Monte Subasio and the interior was modified... More

I found it very inspirational to be in the church where both St. Francis and Santa Clara were baptized. Also, there are spots in the church floor covered by glass for viewing ancient ruins the church was built over. Don't miss the statues of lions eating Christians in front.

The church is great from the baptismal to the glass in the floor to see original foundations.

Almost all visitors to Assisi will visit the Basilica di San Francesco, and many will visit the Church of San Chiara. Both are huge monuments erected in the name of two people who deliberately lived lives of poverty, and spread a universal message of peace. The decoration and excessive ornamentation of both buildings are thus are direct odds to the... More

My favourite church as it has 2 lovely statues , one of St Francis and one of St Clare. Houses the Baptismal font where Francis and Clare were baptised. Standing at his feet, look up and see his eyes
