You don't need to spend a cent if you don't want. Just go there, take lots of photographs, sit on some steps and soak up the buzzing atmosphere. A great place to be.

In the Piazza you will find the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's Bell Tower and the Baptistery. The marble buildings and architecture are breathtaking.
the area around the Duomo was having road/path works as well as scaffolding around a third of the building.
As soon as we saw this place we fell in love with Florence. Charming, majestic, unbelievable sights at every turn. Even more beautiful at night. Don't miss it. :)
Try to not walk through this area during the busy hours. It is great to see the Duomo but try to come early in the day before the crowds are crazy.
We've seen so many churches in Italy but this adds another majestic stroke to the list. Beautiful, breathtaking and must do, especially as entry is free and worth a visit.
Especially in the evening with the lights, magnificent Pictures to be taken, take a trip to the dome and look on the roofs of Firenze, it is worth it.
This area is so beautiful and so typically European. Hundreds of years to build a cathedral...so hard for anyone in the states to understand something like this. Something that is hundreds of years old and took hundreds of years to build that is still standing and looks so beautiful and crowds come in huge mobs to see this work of...

I like this piazza. It's central and when you walk from one place to another in Florence you often can't help but come through here. The beautiful marble structures of the Duomo cathedral, tower and baptistry never fail to impress even when you've been through a couple of times. Also very beautiful at night. Lots of tourists, yes, but still...
