I took a walking tour with a local guide who spoke excellent English and she took us on a very good route. I would recommend this as the locals know their way around and also tell you things that aren't online or in guide books. This is a very picturesque place and the weather was beautiful.

The old town and the original part of Trieste is experiencing a resurgence. Building are being rehabbed and it's become quite popular with young people. There are more and more new restaurants, shops and cafes there so you can get lots of history and a great cappucino or glass of Prosecco.

this pedestrian area is alive with people going about their daily routine, street vendros and entertainers plying thier trade. read about its' tragic past and walk among Roman ruins, around the old Jewish ghetto and observe the contrast between Fascist and classic 18th-19th century Austrian architecture. Stop and have a coffee while watching life walk by.

You can wander through via di Cavana and Piazza Hortis and see Trieste as it used to be... there are still traditional shops (especially mercerie) and eating places (Città di Pisin), cafés and museums... most is now a pedestrian area so you can stroll through the streets easily. But the whole city is worth visiting, with many traditional shops and... More

Beautiful in the evening - many restaurants and interesting places to eat or just hang out with friends at one of the many wine bars.

Great sunset experience if you walk towards the marine area. In the pedestrian area I should recommend to try one icecream in a place called "chocolate", or buy fresh sliced fruit to enrich your walk.
