The Salaborsa library. This is a fascinating building opposite the fountain of Neptune which adjoins the Piazza Maggiore. This is probably the cultural and social heart of Bologna. This one time stock exchange has Roman ruins beneath which can be viewed through the glass panels in the floor. Just as interesting are the beautiful balconmies and the ceiling.
