The Cathedral is surrounded on three sides by daily market stalls - some selling fruit and vegetables, some selling gifts etc. A busy area, which also contains several good cafes/restaurants.

All of the best sights, sounds, and smells of Freiburg can be found in this space. When I walked through on a Friday at around 11 a.m., an outdoor market was in full swing, packed with flowers, cooked meats, pastries, and other items for sale.
I wandered through for about 20 minutes, and throughout my day in Freiburg, I kept...

What a wonderful atmosphere pervades here. There were people selling interesting handcrafts and throngs of people shopping and enjoying themselves. There was quite a long line of people waiting to but a sausage from Peters sausage van. We lined up too and were not disappointed. Extremely tasty sausage, with onion in a good bread roll. Excellent afternoon tea.
This is the area where I usually go shopping.I esp. love walking around here on a sunny Saturday while checking out small and big shops. .The music coming from buskers in every corner with various talents and instruments is really fantastic.Today, I come across a band of 4 members playing such a lovely folk music.Kids also get entertained by this...

Has a great market and all the buildings surrounding are really beautiful especially the cathedral! Most are from the 1200-1500s!
Strolling on the Freiburger Münsterplatz on a saturday morning, with the vibrant activity of the market, and the ancient beauty of the Münster is simply one of my favorite moments. The sculptures and the colored glass windows on the Münster are fantastic - check out the "Nasentrompeter" (Nose-trumpet blower), and take your binoculars with you!
The cathedral is huge. The is a market all around it in the mornings. The goods are mainly grocery items. There is also a fair bit of handmade souvenirs. Itbhad a real old world feel.
With most of the buildings dating back to the 1460's, you do not find more history ion one spot in Germany.
There is so much to see in this small city, one of the best things is to do an organised walking history tour as soon as you arrive to give you an overview, then you can plan the rest. Come in August for the wine festival!!
This is definitely one of the must see places in Freiburg, if not in Germany. The Muenster, the Cathedral of Freiburg was one of the few buildings not damaged in WW2. It is absolutely fantastic to visit the market in the morning and see all the traditional buildings around the city center. I absolutely loved it
