Easy to find - its not far from the Lumiere Montplaisir Metro station in Lyon. Its a grand old house which is very impressive in itself. I took the audio guide for an extra €3, which was most useful for those who don't speak perfect French. Lots of interesting old cinematic machines to see, lots of old films to watch... More

The place itself is a beautiful one. But the absence of translation to English really makes difficulties for understanding the exposition. More

This is somewhat off the beaten path but if you have an interest in the history of cinema , you should make the trip: 10 minutes by Metro from Presqu'ile. It is included in the Lyon City Card so admission is free. More

I only had an hour and a half to visit the museum, but enjoyed it very much. I learned a lot about the inventors of film projection and a lot more. Very atmospheric an well put together. Beautiful art noveau building. A pity they don't sell dvd's of the original Lumiere films, since a lot of them are shown in... More

I really enjoyed this museum, although I didn't get as much value out of it as I could have due to my very limited French. The English audio guide (and extra 3 euros) is essential if you don't speak French. There are some signs in English, but the majority are in French. I wasn't expecting there to be signs in... More

A must for those interested in the cinema. The home of one of the founders of the cinema. On the ground floor there are displayed many of the cameras used by Lumiere and there are visual presentations of his work.Upstairs there are objects of a more personal nature. Also displayed are his stereo and colour photos. It is difficult when viewing the marvellous colour... We have just returned from a wonderful long weekend in Lyon for my husband's 65 th birthday celebration. We bought a Lyon city ticket and made full use of it, travelling on the excellent metros, trolley buses and trams to see many interesting museums. The best and most interesting one being, in our view, the Institut and Museum Lumiere. From... More
