This experience is one not to be missed the two car train tracks up the mountainside for 25 minutes giving stunning views of the mountains and valley below. Once at La Mer De Glace you need to go down the 380 steps to view the Ice Cave, for free. This is cut into the side of the glacier, is illuminated... More

What more to add? It's a train. A very expensive one. The highest entertainment is to visit the museum at the top, where you can enjoy stuffed animals I'm varying states of decay. It remains a train, that delivers you to a massive tourist trap.

Rather expensive for 3 adults but well worth the trip up the mountain. We where up there for a couple of hours but couldve been longer had we taken advantage of the lovely restaurant. This glacier is 70 meters lower than when i visited 25 years ago which was fascinating really!

The train ride is very pleasant and scenic. Once on the top, there is a small museum, crystal cave, cafe, museum and old, botique hotel. There are great views of the glacier and surrounding mountains. When weather accommodates, you can ride a cable car down to just above the glacier and walk to the ice caves. The trip is worth... We, a family of 5 with kids age 10-16, decided to go to spend the leaving day in Chamonix and a visit to the glacier instead of skiing. It was a nice 20 minute train ride up to Montenvers. Then you take a Telecabine halfway down to the glacier. Then stairs with about 400 steps... Don't go down if you're... More

A great visit up the mountain on the train and then a climb down over 300 steps to the Ice Cave under the glacier. Also had hot chocolate at the hotel overlooking the glacier - what a view!

that for those not in the best of shape, this can be extremely taxing on the body. The train ride is very scenic but once you arrive at the top, you cannot imagine the beauty. Watching people ski over the glacier is amazing. There is a very steep walk from the train station to the caves. The caves are amazing... More

Took the train, walk 380 steps down to ice cave (not that great). But watching people skiing by from Valley Blanche was interesting. Skiers walk up 380 steps with ski boots and carrying skis after skiing 14 miles is admirable.

The old fashioned train takes guests up to the glacier. The drive and the lookout are amazing with majestic vies of the mountains. It is suitable for all ages. Highly recommended to go for a guided tour of the glacier.

The views from this train and the Mer de Glace station are spectacular in the winter. We had been here in late summer before, but winter is definitely more spectacular.
