A truly amazing building, incredible use of Catholic Church resources! I loved the view, and am in awe of the spectacular building.

The Basilique is located about a km from the Vieux Port. However, it is a long and steep climb, as it is situated on a hill top. The church itself was beatiful, and the view is probably the best in Marseille.

Well worth the walk from the old port to the church. The best way we found was to walk up Rue Fort-Notre-Dame from the port and follow the signs. There are great views from the top, and the recently refurbished church is interesting inside.

Every time I visit Mars I make the ritual trip to the Notre Dame. In my opinion, it is part of the experience to reach the cities highest point on foot via the narrow streets from the ‘vieux port’. Obviously the 360°-view above the city is fantastic. You have a magnificent view on the old harbor, the rocky inland and... More

The trip up the hill is arduous and parking was difficult. Overall, a must see, but felt as if the effort was more than the result.

A beautiful building at a wonderful vantage point overlooking the caost line at Marseille. If you are feeling energetic it can be walked but there are other options

It is on the highest point of the city, so basically you could see the golden statue of the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde from everywhere in Marseille. In order to have a close-up view of the church and see the interior, my hubby and I decided to walked straight from the old port to the church that windy... More

We didn't realize how high the attraction was on a hill, OR that you could actually drive or take a bus up there! A little winded when we reached the top, but the view was completely worth it. An overlook of Marseille and the clear, blue Mediterranean coast. Absolutely beautiful inside, as well.

Thank Goodness I went up the Hill to see this place! It is worth a thousand visits and more!! I got dropped off at The Panier in Marseille, where almost everyone goes to! From a distance, a magnificent looking Palace over towered the entire city, this was something I had to see. So I took the train from The Panier,... More
