If you like steam trains and are interested in the associated technology then this is the place for you. With most train museums you get lots of huge exhibits but with this one you get a good selection, not too much, but as it is contained within the old workshops you get all the wonderful technical stuff as well and... I loved visiting this attraction as I love Steam Trains & Railways. Anybody who loves Steam Trains should go visit this place as it's well worth it. It's also right next to all the Designer Outlets of Swindon. The Car Parks across the road from this are very cheap. 5 hours for £1 which is unheard of anywhere else.

We have been to Steam a few times, due to having a 9 year old son, who is a self confessed train nut. If you have any interest in by gone trains, you will love this place. Also the café upstairs is brilliant, much better than the food court in the Designer outlet village over the road!

If you are old enough to remember steam trains then this will interest you. A very interesting museum that details primarily the Great Western Railway as engineered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel with a focus on the steam trains. Well worth the visit and you can easily spend 2-3 hours here. They have a small gift shop and a plesant cafe... More

The only thing missing from this place is the actual steam! Everything else is really well done. The staff are really polite and helpful, the place is well laid out and it's not half as boring as I expected it to be! The food in the Cafe was good but they hadn't staffed-up for half term and it was a... More

Visited this great museum during my stay at Swindon and I enjoyed my visit there. Though the entry fee was comparatively high but it didn't pinch me once I roam around the museum.Lots of old and informative things are preserved very well in this museum. You can have some snacks as well at snack counter,if you want.

What a great day out for everyone. It began well with the polite and helpful ticket staff. Toulets were plentiful and VERY clean. Coffe at the attractive cafe was reasonably prices and tasted great. The museum was facinating. Plenty of hands on things to go - from quizzes to train driving and signal box handling. Exhibits facinating and interesting. Great... More

Good insight into Swindon heritage. Plenty of exhibits and hands on displays. Cafe was very good and friendly service throughout.

Plenty to see and great value for money. Would definitely visit again, kid's loved being able to get up close to the exhibits.

Went on a weekday and found the museum full of very young children ( and pushchairs). Children below school age really just treat this as a big playground ( and why not!), but this does mean everything has to be very safe so you won't get any hint of actual steam at the Steam Museum. The exhibits are very interesting... More
